Home Decors to Get Rid Off|Custom Wood Art You Need To Have in Your Home

Everyone has that vision of a perfect home – cozy, trendy, and most of all clean. But because of design trends every now and then, we might find our homes stuffed with unusual things. To make your home more inviting and more relaxing, it is time to declutter or upgrade to more conventional designs. Here are some of the things to stay away from.

Sleek and flat looking rooms

Over the past few years, modernist interior design tops the list. But modern is almost synonymous to sleek and flat looking rooms. In short, homes may look monotonous and boring. For this year, textures, patterns, or anything that break that blunt design is in. Several designs may include pleat folds and anything that incorporate your personal style.

Brass

Last year, we saw overkill to brass designs. Along with warm metallic counterparts like bronze and copper, brass was a trend back in the 70’s.  We had seen brass incorporated into every kind of furniture we can think of. However, using brass in almost every corner of your home gives out a very ‘stiff’ and industrialized atmosphere. If you went overboard last year with brass designs, it is time to throw some of them. Brass fashion can easily come and go, as long as you don’t go overboard with it, you are good. Rumor has it, that brass will soon make experience revival.

Brushed Metals

Your main aim should always be the comfort of your home. Trends for this year lean toward textures and comfy feel. Stay away from the industrial look and try to minimize gold accents. Look for shinier metals create a very sophisticated look especially in your kitchens.

Edison bulbs

Edison bulbs are used to complete the industrialized look which was popular last year.  If you have any of these left hanging from your ceiling, get rid of it. Opt for a more fitting lighting in your home. You would want to make your home with a bubblier vibe that will always look inviting. Not something that came out from a science project.

All Whites

Over the years, all white kitchens, laundry rooms, and living rooms graced the front covers of home magazines. It all looks good in the magazine but impractical in the real life, especially if you have children. Cleaning will be a nightmare. Try to break the dull colors with textures, patterns, and accents. For this year, navy is the new black. Incorporate navy colors in some areas of your home to make it look up to date.

DIY's

DIYs are not really a bad thing but too having too much of it is not always a good thing. Try to do home cleanse, and focus on a few pieces of your DIYs in your home to show your personality. This year is the year for artisans and pieces that show great skills. Visit Carved Lake Art for some of their unique masterpieces of wood carved lakes. They are a great décor that will attract attention because of their high-quality work. Also, Detroit Michigan will be your haven for paintings and artisan works.

How to Decontaminate a Boat|Custom Collectible Wood Art for the Boater in Your Life

Boating is a way of life for most people. Decontamination is a way to preserve life in the open seas. Every boater should know how important decontamination is. Invasive species may latch on the bottom of the boat that may cross another body of water causing an imbalance on the marine life. These species can be a plant, fungus or animal that has a tendency to cause damage to the environment, health and even in the economy.

It is the sole responsibility of the boaters to decontaminate their boating equipment properly. Doing it right protects the open waters from the devastating effect of invasive species. Safe from their usual predators and disease of their natural habitat these species can cause a devastating effect on other bodies of water. They can reproduce in uncontrollably and can cause problems like:

significantly decreasing game fish and other native marine life

break boat engines and may jam steering gear, causing accidents

    increase drinking water operating cost

    can cause diseases

makes rivers and lakes unsafe for boaters and swimmers

The best way to prevent these things is to stop it from spreading to another body of water. Cleaning is an understatement for it. Decontamination is the only proper way to stop these species invading other areas. With the proper equipment and right products, it is as simple as clean, drain, and dry.

Even if the waters look clear and unpolluted, invasive species may hide under the surface of your boat. They can be as big as mussels and as tiny as a microbe. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Coast Guard recommend the following steps in decontaminating boats. It is very important to do these procedures every time boats come into contact with any body of water.

CLEAN

Once docked, remove any visible plants, animals, mud, and dirt from the boat. Check the trailers, boots, fishing tackle, and other equipment that may have come in contact with the water. Tiny invasive species may hitchhike from the dirt and other plant fragments.

Thoroughly clean boating and fishing equipment including the boat’s cooling system, bilge using hot tap water. If hot is not available then spray the trailers, boats, floats, and anchors with a high-pressure spray.

In some cases, equipment cannot be exposed to hot water or high-pressure spray. Dipping in in vinegar for at least 20 minutes may do the trick. Another option is to immerse it with a once-percent salt water solution for 24 hours.

For pets that cannot resist the water, wash them properly using tap water as soon as possible. They may hide unwanted creatures under their coats.

DRAIN

Empty waters from jet drives live wells, boat hulls, bait buckets, and motors. It is important to do this on site as doing it somewhere else may contaminate local waters.

Do not dump unused bait into the waters even if it was bought from a store near the dock or caught in local waters. They may already be contaminated with other things. Dump it properly into a trash can.

DRY

It is crucial for the boat and other equipment to dry for a minimum of 5 days before using them again in open waters.

These are excellent tips for any avid boat enthusiasts. If you're looking for the ideal gift for the boater in your life Carved Lake Art has a large selection of custom made like this Cape Coral 3D Nautical Wood Chart.

Boat Driving Tips For Beginners|Great Gift Ideas Collectible Wood Art

Everyone starts small even boaters. Whether you need a new hobby, or just want to enjoy a cruise on the open waters here are some of the basic things you need to know as a boater.

Knowing the proper boating terms

Mastering the right boating terms is important. The bow is a short term for “you bow forward” means front. Port is left, Starboard is right, Stern is the back of the boat, and the beam is where the widest width of the boat.

Every time you go on board always check for these things – fire extinguisher, life vests, gas, oil, and 3 flares. Everybody onboard is required by the law to wear life vests even adults.

Inspect the bilge pump area to check for water. In some boats, you may need to turn on the bilge to see.

Always check the ventilation blowers before starting the engine. Look for any unusual seepage or oil in the water. These gases can leak from the engine and might blow you up.

Once you check everything is clear, turn on the ignition and just look at the engine. You really don’t need to be an expert mechanic if you see smoke coming out from the engine to know there is a problem.

Look at your gauges. Oil pressure is around 60, engine temperature is from 160 to 175. RPM is usually at about 3000 at 30 mpg.

Driving on the open waters

As any vehicle, it is important to know the speed limit of the area. Most people do not pay attention to it which results in boating accidents.

Keep in mind that you should always be 100 feet from the shore and 500 feet away from any people using Jet Skis.

Keep at the ‘one click’ speed within the 5 mph zone to avoid accidents.  When you move the lever, go really slowly. Remember to level out the boat when starting out.

Another rule to always remover is boats with lower priority must give way for vessels with higher priority. Higher priority vessels are those who are unable to maneuver or have a limited ability to maneuver. Lower priority vessels may include boats engaged in fishing (this does not include trolling line which does not limit maneuverability) and power driven vessels.

If this confuses you, then it's best to avoid larger vessels at any cost even if you have the right of way just to be cautious.

Memorize the term “Red Right Returning”. Green and Ref buoys are an indication of directions. When heading north red buoys should be on your Port (left) and vice versa when going back.

When docking

One of the trickiest parts in boating is docking. Remember to do ‘one click’ and never going past it. It is important to go slow and never rush when docking. Easy does it, as they say.

Once you successfully dock, turn off the battery with the switch. If you leave any light on, your battery will not drain and you can still start up the engine.

Boating can be quite an adventure. Knowing the basics of boating can make the experience more exciting! And if you are looking for an excellent gift to give a loved one who is an avid boater, Carved Lake Art has a wide array of nautical gifts for you! Places You Should Not Miss in Lake Travis|Collectible Art

Lake Travis is a reservoir located on the Colorado River in Texas. Mansfield Dam constructed it in 1942, on the western part of Austin, Texas. The Lower Colorado River Authority designed Lake Travis to hold flood waters to protect flash-flood prone areas. Initially, the plan was to contain flood waters but during its construction in July of 1938, a severe flood damaged the reservoir. The incident prompted an increase of its storage capacity for flood waters.

Among the seven reservoirs of the Highland Lakes, Lake Travis holds the record as the largest storage capacity reservoir. Measuring 65 miles from Travis County, going to Burnet County up until Max Starcke Dam, the lake has a snake-like design which ends in Marble Falls town. The Pedernales River flows drains into the lake from the southwestern part of Travis County. In all of Texas, Lake Travis has the clearest water and a significant water source for Austin and nearby cities.  Other purposes of the lake include water supply, electrical power generation as well as recreation.
Most people visit Lake Travis because of its fun and exciting outdoor recreational activities. Activities like boating, fishing, boating, and camping are amongst the favorites. A more bold activity within the lake happens in Hippie Hollow Park, aside from swimming, nude sunbathing is allowed on this beach. The very scenic beauty of Lake Travis has created these popular destinations.

The center is open to the public from Tuesday through Saturday.

Don’t forget to bring food and a cooler for an all-day fun experience.

When you find Lake Travis packed with tourists, you can park in Lakeway and just walk into the lake. Tequesta Indians first settled in Key Biscayne. In 1513, the Spanish explorer named Juan Ponce de Leon had the first record of the island. According to the 2010 US Census, Key Biscayne has a total population of 12,344 residents and among the first Miami, areas to be evacuated for any hurricane forecasts. The area has a very low elevation and faces the Atlantic Ocean directly which makes it prone to flash floods.

Sometimes the Miami gets too crowded and so mainstream if you want something different visit Key Biscayne. The area is lined with great beaches between two major parks, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and Crandon Park. This means, wherever you go, there exciting places to discover and new experiences waiting for you.

Located in the southern part of the island, Bill Braggs Cape Florida State Park houses one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world. You can visit the 19th century Cape Florida Lighthouse for free or enjoy the narrow beaches in the area. The place is as serene as it can be with calm and crystal clear waters. Climb up in the tower to see the magnificent 360-degree view of the island. You can also rent a bike, as Key Biscayne has a reputation for being bike-friendly. Bike trails as long as 1.5 miles traverse through the state park passing through Biscayne Bay. You don’t need to bring a bike as the park offers bike rentals.

# 2 Crandon Park

Another popular tourist destination lies in the northern tip of Key Biscayne. Palm trees, sand dunes, and sandy white beaches make Crandon Park as one of Miami’s best beaches. No city lights or sky scrapers can ruin your tropical vacation as most of the surrounding areas are designated parkland.

# 3 Beyond Donuts

It may not be a destination, but it sure is a popular spot for locals. After an exhausting hike or looking for a place to stop, refuel your body with some sugar. This 41-year-old Donut Gallery Diner is a very popular destination for locals. In some days, the most prominent people in the island would come here and talk about politics, business, and other important gossips. The shop has a very old school vibe with vinyl-covered bar stools and 1950s interior.

# 4 Overwater Bungalows

The world famous group of tropical houses built on stilts is one of Key Biscayne prominent tourist spots. Located on Biscayne shallow shoal channels, the place is accessible via a short boat ride from Crandon Park Marina. How to Prevent Boating Accidents|8 Best Tips to Prevent Boating Accidents

When sailing in the open seas, boat operators and passengers have their part to prevent accidents and injuries. But accidents can strike anytime and anywhere, it is always best to prepare ahead of time. Here are some of the things you can do in preventing boating accidents.

#1 Do not consume alcohol when boarding

Alcohol is the main leading cause of fatalities in boating accidents, according to the US Coast Guard. In the year 2011, alcohol causes 16% of boating-related accidents deaths. In the same study of the agency, drinking while boating has a 34% chance of boating fatalities. Just like operating any types of machinery, drinking and boating increase the chance of accidents on seas.
However, with all the fun happening under the sun and activities in the water, you can get distracted. One glass of wine or a can of beer may easily turn into one bottle or quite a number of beers. It is not that hard to get drunk while operating a boat. Make it a commitment not to consume alcohol while on board and think about safety. Also, operating a boat while under the influence can get you prison time.

# 2 Make it a habit to check you have sufficient safety equipment onboard

Your boats should always have adequate safety equipment like boat lights, and fire extinguisher. There should be enough life jackets and flotation devices for everyone as well as first aid kits and emergency provisions. Before leaving port make sure the anchor is onboard and don’t ever leave without one.

About 70% of boat accidents fatalities happen because of drowning and 84% of people who drowned did not wear any life jackets.

# 3 Properly Maintain the boat and keep all safety equipment in top shape

Neglecting routine check-ups, proper maintenance of the boat and its safety equipment can land you in jail. Under the rule of court, this is an act of negligence. In 2011, boat malfunction and poor safety equipment resulted in 424 boating accidents, 151 injuries, and 28 fatalities, according to the US Coast Guard. Check your boat and its main components prior to your plans of sailing away, that you give you enough time to replace or repair necessary equipment.

# 4 Constantly monitor weather conditions

Weather conditions can change drastically in the open seas. If the weather looks to get worse, follow your instinct and return to shore as soon as possible. The Coast Guard reported bad weather conditions resulted in 771 accidents with 466 injuries and 155 fatalities for the year 2011. These include environmental issues like congested waterways and treacherous water conditions. Always heed weather forecasts and warnings before heading out.

#5 Do not overload the boat

Letting too many passengers and gear on your boat increases the risk of swamping or capsizing. Be mindful of the weight capacity of your boat, not just for the passengers but also with their gears. The weight capacity of each boat should be posted in the operator’s area. Overloading caused 193 accidents, 109 injuries and 79 deaths back in 2011.

Operators either overload the boat or improperly load the boat because of unmindful loading. You should be aware how to equally distribute passengers or gears to avoid capsizing and other accidents.

# 7 Always pay attention to your surroundings

As operating any vehicles or machinery, you need to watch other passing boats. Stay vigilant for people doing some activities in the water. Operator negligence resulted in 581 boating accidents, 363 injuries, and 58 deaths in 2011. Keep your focus on how to stay clear from other distractions in the water.  Another helpful tip from expert boaters – do not turn off your emergency radio. You can receive crash warnings and incoming weather conditions on your radio. You may not have any cell phone signals in the open seas but you can always rely on your radio.

# 8 Maintain safe speed and always follow navigational rules

Even though there are no posted speed limits sign on the water, you should know the imposed limit in your area. Always follow speed limits and navigational rules when out in the water.

Over speeding is the leading cause of boating accidents which resulted in 349 accidents, 321 injuries, and 28 deaths in 2011. There are many rules for boating but following these two significant rules can prevent accidents.
