Referred to as the “Queen of American Lakes”, Lake George lies in the southeastern part of the Adirondack Mountains and northeastern part of New York. Located in the upper region of the Great Appalachian Valley, it drains northward into Lake Champlain and St. Lawrence.
Measuring about 32.2 mi of 51.8 km from north to south, it is rather deep for its size. It measures about three miles or 1.6 to 4.8 km at its widest width. Lake George serves as an important passage to the east and west side. The towns around Lake George are relatively small but balloon to over 50,000 residents during summertime. Many of these residents choose the southern region of the lake because of its location and scenery.

Elvis Festival
Elvis Festival is something not to be missed when visiting Lake George. The annual festival begins every 27th of May and runs until the 31 of May. Enjoy the four-day celebration of everything Elvis along with 4,000 tourists who come here to experience Lake George each year. The town literally goes back in time as they commemorate the late Rock n Roll icon. The kick-off celebration is usually held at Shepard Park where the town follows suit. There are classic car shows, collectibles sale, and even gospel music competition.

Fort William Henry Museum
Museums are always worth a visit, teeming with history, you can educate your children how hard the pioneers fought for the country. Fort William Henry Museum displays artifacts from the previous British outpost. Today, the museum shows actors portraying soldiers and locals dressed in the 18th century to emphasize the history of the region. In some days, you might witness some live fire demonstrations and shows. Special events are held during summer and all military members and veterans get free admissions.

Up Yonda Butterfly Farm
To get a better view of Lake George, visit Up Yonda Butterfly Farm. The 72-acre preserve and education center has a very scenic view of the lake. They also showcase live butterflies in a wide butterfly garden enclosed with huge netting. The best time to come in Up Yonda Butterfly Farm is from the month of July until the first few weeks of September. There is also a sugarhouse and trails to enjoy for the rest of the seasons. Located just a few minutes’ drive from Lake George Village in Bolton Landing, it’s sure to make your little ones happy.
Adirondack Extreme Adventure
For the more adventurous mind, head to Adirondack Extreme Adventure to get a bit of action. They offer obstacle course for every age group. Adirondack Extreme Adventure has one course for the very young, ages 7 years old above, four for teenagers and six adult obstacle courses, including 130 obstacle challenges in the area. A 1.5 altitude will give you a breathtaking view of Lake George but allow a couple of hours for each obstacle course.

Six Flags Great Escape Splashwater Kingdom
Can’t get enough of the water? This massive water park has 135 rides and attractions. It’s main attraction are the slides built 30 feet high and almost 300 feet of crazy turns will surely feed your adrenaline rush. Six Flags Great Escape Splashwater Kingdom sits beside the Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Water Park.
Warren County Bikeway
For a more tone down adventure, you can ride a bike through Warren County Bikeway. The 10-mile asphalt trail traverses from Lake George to Glen Falls. It leads to beautiful views of the lake, residential towns, Platt Street and Lake George Beach State Park.
